The Museum of Special Documents of Cabo Verde
Our work (to be presented at XV Annual Meeting 2008 of the COMON) has as main goal to exhibit the current coins and bills in use in Cape Verde Islands. In other words, it intends to introduce and to divulge the archive of the Instituto do Arquivo Histórico Nacional, more specifically, its Museum of Special Documents which is the national numismatic archive.
Our work will be divided in two parts. In the first part we will introduce the Instituto do Arquivo Histórico Nacional referring to aspects regarding its creation, the history of the building where it’s lodged, its workers and its main role in the national scene. In the second and last part we will present our numismatic archive focusing on the current coins and bills in use in Cape Verde.
The numismatic work to be presented here will tell you about the historical dimension of our currency; about the difficulties that our Institute face regarding the science of numismatics itself and also about the specialized care that as museum collection part of an archive needs.
