Broadening Horizons – the Money Museum and touring exhibitions
The Money Museum in Utrecht is a young and exploring organisation. The new museum (which opened its doors in May 2007) is now operating in the field of touring exhibitions.
The exhibitions of the Money Museum focus on the questions: ‘What does money do to people?’ and ‘What do people do with money?’ The result: conceptually strong, interactive and high-spirited exhibitions, aimed to further the financial education of visitors young and old. At this moment three exhibitions are available for touring: ‘Money for the Future’, ‘The Art of Money’ and ‘Money and your Life! What’s the reason the Money Museum wishes to produce travelling exhibitions? What’s the surplus value, what are the aims? And what’s the long term focus of the Money Museum regarding the touring exhibitions? And – most importantly – do we respond to an existing need in the field? These questions will be addressed, answering the question if travelling exhibitions are only ‘a hype’, or a new dimension of the modern museum.
